The nights are dark again and so the new NA season is here now.
One first test of the equipment on August 27th told me that all the radios and recorders
were still working and at least one of the antennas was OK too. Probably both but
the atmosphere did not allow any serious listening in that direction.
Next test on the 31st showed very fine results and both wires did work now.
I was not aware of the new nighttime schedule of WCCW 1310 so that took me by surprise!
Many more stations from the Great Lakes were heard but too little time for identification...
NORTH AMERICA
1150 31.8 0146 WHBY Kimberly WI pushing the needle up to S9+20 dB! Close to Q5! BOS
1160 31.8 0127 WYLL Chicago IL QRK 4 plus! Promo with ID. BOS
1190 31.8 0132 WOWO Fort Wayne IN dominant on 1190 this night. But WLIB under and Argentina
heard later. ID as "W-O-W-O" and also as "Wowo" (Not Volvo...) BOS
1200 31.8 0220 CFGO Ottawa ON a surprising "This is CFGO..." plus normal "Team 1200" BOS
1250 31.8 0141 WSSP Milwaukee WI perfect signal and ID and into Fox Sports again. BOS
1290 31.8 0147 WIRL Peoria IL with fine ID and Country music. BOS
1290 31.8 0118 WMCS Greenfield WI with OK signal and dual ID "Milwaukee's ESPN Radio ..."
mentioning both 1290 and 1510 kHz. BOS
1290 31.8 0152 CJBK London ON with only a couple of weak ""NewsTalk 1290 CJBK" ID's. BOS
1300 31.8 0130 WOOD Grand Rapids MI is not hard to hear or identify... BOS
1310 31.8 0146 +WCCW Traverse City MI with first ID at this hour and then on top for almost an
hour and often at perfect signal! Lots of local commercials and ID's! Quite a chock
for me! I did not know that they had gone from DT to 7.5 kW nights!! BOS
1310 31.8 0236 CIWW Toronto ON not as dominant as expected. "Oldies 1310" BOS
1320 27.8 0100 CKEC New Glasgow NS very strong with lots of ID:s and OLD pop. Now that
Norway is off they will limit the possibility to hear Gold here. But they too
will leave the AM ...Mostly LA stations heard but a few NA:s too. Only from the
Atlantic coast line. From FL to NS. No NL station heard. BOS
1360 31.8 0153 WTAQ Green Bay WI with very good signal and ID. BOS
1470 31.8 0100 WLAM Lewiston ME fine legal ID after ESPN network ad's. BOS
1480 31.8 0129 WGVU Kentwood MI w/ weather and ID after NPR program BOS
1520 31.8 0117 WWKB Buffalo NY w/ fine promo as I did pass the frequency. BOS
1600 31.8 0150 WRPN Ripon WI with weak but clear ID after local ad. Not a pest here... BOS
1660 27.8 0059 WCNZ Marco Island FL QRK 4 easily with legal ID for 1660 and 1410 WMYR.
Obviously in parallell now carrying Relevant Radio. On the other X-band frequencies
a handful stations poped up for a few seconds now and then here and there. BOS
1700 31.8 0134 KVNS Brownsville TX with an ID in a Doctor Laura promo. Q3. BOS
OTHERS
1190 31.8 0255 Radio America, Buenos Aires took over after the NA's with fine ID etc. BOS
1540 27.8 0119 Bahamas very strong for a couple of minutes with lots of local Bahamas
mentions and details. The best signal ever in my phones. BOS
1600 27.8 0130 WVOZ Bayamon PR fair to good signal with romantic latin music and ID. BOS
TENTATIVE
1130 31.8 0148 (Tent) WISN Milwaukee WI dominant and with lots of Milwaukee mentions. BOS
1300 31.8 0123 (Tent) WRDZ La Grange IL but nothing local. Only "Radio Disney" heard. BOS
1320 31.8 0231 (Tent) CJMR Mississauga ON very strong with unknown Asian language and local
commercials. (Phone) numbers given in English. BOS
1500 31.8 0118 (Tent) WLQV Detroit MI very strong with REL px. No ID heard. BOS
1600 31.8 0206 (Tent) WOKB Winter Garden FL ?? Fairly distinct "1600 WOKB" heard but could be
that some other station here has made a call change to "WOAB"or similar?
