September 2004

North American signals most nights but too early in the season for any serious signal hunt.
But it is getting better day by day now. Mid September usually means the first new one
for me. (Radio Juventus on 1640 was new to me September 10th - but ....)

First real DX night on the 12th gave quite a few standards. Often very strong but distortion
from auroral activity made it impossible to hear what they said at times. The Quebec stations on 1610 and 1570 came fine for short periods and CFAV was new for Sweden with ID I think?

Other nights in mid September may have been as fine as September 12th but I did not check.
No listening September 13th and then a proton event made listening less meaningful for several days.  A few stations heard when I got up in the middle of the night on the 19th. Then a second disturbance arrived.

1150  12.9  0201  CHGM Gaspé QC  with dual ID for Gaspé and New Carlisle.  Q2-3   BOS
1190  12.9  0400  WLIB New York NY  w/ Caribbean community phone-in show.  BOS
1220    5.9  0240  WHK Cleveland OH  with a promo for a show over another Cleveland station! FM?
                               Several ON and OH stations this night. 1540, 1460, 1350, 1290, 960 etc.   BOS
1310  19.9  0400  WIBA Madison WI  w/ a Q2 ID; "ESPN Radio 1310 .....Madison."   BOS
1390  12.9  0205  WEGP Presque Isle ME  with many local Presque Isle ads plus ID.  BOS
1420  19.9  0345  WHK Cleveland OH  "Newstalk 1420 WHK."  one of the better signals this night.  BOS
1430  12.9  0413  WXKS Everett MA  fine signal with NOS and identification.  BOS

1640  11.9  0159  WKSH Sussex WI  many nights with "Radio Disney AM 1640" non-ID:s.  The
                                other Disney on 1640 is not possible to hear this time of the year so ....  BOS
1660    9.9  0300  KQWB West Fargo ND  fine signal now and then over a two hour period. Many
                                "Talk Radio 1660" slogans and CNN News. Call letters heard on the hour. BOS
1670  12.9  0312  WMWR Warner Robins GA  "TalkRadio 1670 WMWR"  Q3   BOS

  580  22.9  0415  WKAQ San Juan PR  fine signal and identification.   640 very strong with FF
                                 plus many standard CA stations, like 530,  heard.  BOS
  900  12.9  0353  YVMD  Radio Mara Ritmo, Maracaibo   fine with "Mara Ritmo 900" ID.  BOS
1180  12.9  0324  CMBA Radio Rebelde  with a few fine ID:s.  BOS
1190    5.9  0310  R America, Buenos Aires  fine ID. Lots of La Plata and Brazilian stations.  BOS
1280  22.9  0417  WCMN Arecibo PR   good w/ NotiUno mentions and some other frequency.  BOS
1540  22.9  0402  Bahamas  very good with news and weather. First time for me with positive ID.  BOS
1640  10.9  0211  R Juventus Don Bosco, Santo Domingo  clear ID with mentions of Santo Domingo.
                                 Will become a regular guest here.  Soft music most of the time.  BOS
